Otari MTR-90 slow lock troubleshooting
If you're MTR-90 is slow to lock, here are a few things to check out:
Is there a dummy plug on the machine? If not, you now know how it got it's name!
Check that the "Audio/Video Ref" switch on the EC101 is set to the correct reference.
Are the idler and capstan rollers clean?
Is the incoming timecode verified good? Check the timecode feed with another device to verify.
Is the tape transport alignment correct? You may have to dig out the manual to verify this. NOTE: The swing arm voltages on our rental machines are set at 3.5 volts. If you are running 996, or 3M 250, the voltage needs to be about 1/2 volt lower. Also, if you are running 3M 250, see the note above about clean rollers...
Are the motor torque tracking adjustments on the transport control board (R1 and R2) set correctly? These affect forward and reverse locking and parking dramatically. You may have to dig out that manual for this one...
If the problems persist, here are a few more things to try:
Reboot from the remote:Simultaneously press 'ENABLE', 'SHIFT', and 'SET HOLD' buttons on remote, then release.
Old fashioned reboot: Power the machine down, and power it back up.
Still not happening? Dig out the EC101 manual, and follow the alignment procedure.
One last alternative: Call us to rent a machine!
